About me & MY GOALS

I am married to my beautiful wife, Julie, and we have an amazing little girl, Joan, with one more baby on the way!  My wife and I were both born and raised in Edmonton, although we moved to Calgary after the Rio 2016 Olympic Games to accelerate my gymnastics career and put us in a place where I have the best chance to achieve this goal.

As a Canadian athlete, funding is difficult to come by.  On my journey to Tokyo 2020, I am looking for sponsors to help support me in training, competition and recovery. There is a direct correlation between access to funds and the amount of time I can dedicate to training, competition, and recovery.  Therefore, the more time I have to train, compete and recover, the more opportunity I will have to reach my goals.

Finding the time and resources to raise the necessary funds to pay for life and my athletic career comes difficult when being a full time Canadian athlete, full-time dad, and a part-time student.  Donations and contributions of any kind are very appreciated and never overlooked!

To provide value to sponsorship, I can provide any of my skills I have developed over my years in and out of gymnastics. I have had experience, attending special events as a guest/motivational speaker, modelling for photo shoots, post/advertising on social media and on my webpage, and participating or staring in impactful commercials.

Thank you for taking the time to visit my website and learning a little more about me!  To know more or if you want to help, please contact me at my email/phone number (jpayne00@gmail.com/780-232-7003).  You can also follow me on Instagram and Facebook to get updates on all my training, competitions and everyday life as I look forward to the 2020 Tokyo Olympic Games.

I have competed and represented Canada over 50 times in more than 20 countries on the World stage. I was named to Team Canada for the Rio 2016 Olympic Games after overcoming an achilles tendon rupture just 11 months prior to the Rio Olympic trials. I am a 4 time All-Around Canadian National Champion, Commonwealth Games Silver Medalist, 7 time World Championships Team Member, and have won multiple medals at various International World Cup events.

I am an “All-Around athlete” (competitor on all 6 apparatus) but my specialties are the Pommel Horse, Parallel Bars, and High Bar. I am also a student studying Business Finance through Queens Smith’s School of Business (online).
